An intensive voice health program working with all aspects of voice health for the classroom teacher. A face-to-face workshop with two full-day intensives and a period of peer observations in between. Completing this course will contribute 10hrs of NESA Registered PD addressing 3.5.2, 6.2.2, 6.3.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.

Course Outline

Day One involves updating teachers on Voice Health knowledge. Teachers will explore their own voice tendencies and occupational voice risks. Exercises will be introduced and applied within group work and in pairs including warming up the voice, voice placement, correct use of the breath stream, voice projection, voice flexibility and classroom management- verbal and non-verbal. The Session will finish with resources for continued support and classroom observations.

After a period of at least two weeks, where teachers will apply their new voice skills and peer observations, participants will reconvene for Day Two, which involves group feedback and discussion. Teachers will then have individual voice sessions to update their individual voice health needs. Participants will receive individual voice health programs and ongoing resources and support. Please wear comfortable clothes and shoes – this is a movement based class.

Occupational voice health is a documented concern for teachers resulting in reduced confidence and missed days from work. Research recommends ongoing voice awareness and care for preventative care and maintenance. This workshop approaches voice work through movement to help teachers become aware of their voice habits and find practical solutions to optimise voice health. Whether your students struggle to hear you, or a day in class leaves you hoarse; whether you just want to be in control of your voice or speak more engagingly, our Voice Health workshops will meet your professional learning needs.
